2007 Warden's Report 2007 Our Savior spent another year without a full-time priest. With the dedication of many of you, we were able to carry on the mission and ministry of this parish. It was not meant to be easy – in fact it was at times discouraging and at times mind-boggling. Yet through it all, we continue to witness and sense the Providence of our Father in heaven. He has led us through the wilderness into this new Jerusalem ; he will not abandon us now. As Sister Ellen Francis stated in her sermon last Sunday, we will continue to be God’s instruments for his will to be done on earth. We will continue to pour water into the stone water jars for God in order for the miracle to be carried out in God’s own time and way. The Vestry is fully aware of our need of pastoral care and spiritual leadership; we have held many discussions on the search and call for a priest. Availability of candidates is a concern; our financial ability is another issue. Nonetheless, we firmly believe that God will send the right person at the right time to our midst. I ask that you continue to pray for this and for the financial strength of the parish in order for us to be able to call a full-time priest soon. Speaking of church finance, as you will read and hear about the 2006 Financial Report, the pledges have dropped by about $10,000 as compared to 2005’s. Should we be alarmed by this? If we are to call a full-time priest, we ought to be aware of the financial state of our church. It is a matter that should concern not only the Wardens or the Vestry but each and everyone in this Our Savior family. If Our Savior is to be a healthy parish, we should all be concerned with the issues and problems faced by the parish. We all have our particular role to play in the life of this church. Supporting God’s work through your pledges regularly and generously certainly is not the least of it. I do want to thank the staff of the church office, Mission Graphics and the Jubilee Center, under the able leadership of Mr. Peter Ng, for their selfless dedication. Many of them often go beyond the call of duty to make sure that the job is completed and delivered on time. Through the work of the Jubilee Center, we reach out to our community through our various programs. Our Mission Graphics provides professional service in publication to many other churches and non-profit organizations. I am constantly humbled by the staff’s unfailing strive for excellence. I need to thank DeYoung Chan as my partner-in-mission in serving this church, the Vestry members who have stood by us and each other through thick or thin, and all the participants in our various ministries (Sunday School teaching staff, acolytes, lay-ministers, ushers, readers, and those who make our luncheon fellowship possible). We are blessed to have these sisters and brothers in our midst. For their Christian witness and service, there is no end to my giving thanks to God. Take heart, and know that Christ is in our midst, guiding us and watching over us. Let us continue to walk in love and serve God in 2007. Sincerely yours, Samuel Cheung |
